Biomedical science at ECU is a continually changing, dynamic field with long-term career prospects, including roles in management, research, education and specialised laboratory work.

Biomedical scientists focus on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body. 

Their work is an important element in understanding and treatment of human diseases.

This course introduces a broad range of theory, including studies in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry and biomedical ethics, while giving you extensive practical experience in cutting edge laboratories, located in a purpose-built $50m Science building.

Work Experience requirement

MMS3500 Professional Practice in Biomedical Science: Students will complete a minimum of 100 hours of unpaid work placement.

Foundation:

A Diploma from ECC is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree at Edith Cowan University.

It aims to prepare international students for further study in an ECC Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Edith Cowan University bachelor’s degree.

Your Diploma of Health Science at ECC can lead into ECU's second year of the below undergraduate degrees:

• Bachelor of Psychology - Bachelor of Biomedical Science minor in: Human Biology - Receive 6 units exemption from Diploma of Health Science - Bachelor of Biomedical Science major in: Applied Chemistry, Data Science, Forensic Science, Human Biology, Human Genetics - Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science) →  If you commence at ECU in July, it will take 2.5 years to complete at ECU due to sequencing of units. - Bachelor of Science (Nursing) → Limited places in Diploma for this course stream. - Bachelor of Speech Pathology → February intake only.
