Bachelor of Biomedical Science

Biomedical science at ECU is a continually changing, dynamic field with long-term career prospects, including roles in management, research, education and specialised laboratory work.

Biomedical scientists focus on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body. 

Their work is an important element in understanding and treatment of human diseases.

This course introduces a broad range of theory, including studies in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry and biomedical ethics, while giving you extensive practical experience in cutting edge laboratories, located in a purpose-built $50m Science building.

As a Biomedical Science graduate, you can also continue on to specialise in one of these fields:

Work Experience requirement

The Academic English Program (AEP) is designed for students who plan to study at an Australian university or who are interested in developing academic reading, writing, listening and communication skills. 

  • Taught in 10-week terms, with possible start dates every five weeks.
  • Focuses on a mixture of communication skills and academic study skills
  • With a minimum of 65%, you will be able to graduate to the next AEP level or to your designated course.
  • No further English testing is required (except for Nursing and other higher English course requirements).
  • Leads into Diploma, Foundation and PQP programs at ECC and various degree programs at ECU.

A Diploma from ECC is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree at Edith Cowan University.

It aims to prepare international students for further study in an ECC Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Edith Cowan University bachelor’s degree.

Your Diploma of Health Science at ECC can lead into ECU's second year of the below undergraduate degrees:

  • Bachelor of Psychology - Bachelor of Biomedical Science minor in: Human Biology - Receive 6 units exemption from Diploma of Health Science - Bachelor of Biomedical Science major in: Applied Chemistry, Data Science, Forensic Science, Human Biology, Human Genetics - Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science) →  If you commence at ECU in July, it will take 2.5 years to complete at ECU due to sequencing of units. - Bachelor of Science (Nursing) → Limited places in Diploma for this course stream. - Bachelor of Speech Pathology → February intake only. Available to international students only. Limited places in Diploma for this course stream.
