The Medical Science major provides an overview of human structure, function and health.
The major is built on the core disciplines of human anatomy, physiology, biology, and chemistry, along with human growth, nutrition, exercise and effective communication in health care.
Control mechanisms, histology, and pathophysiology are introduced in the second year, along with regional anatomy, cardiorespiratory physiology and neuroscience in the final year.
Lectures, tutorials, and hands-on practical sessions are integral to teaching across the major.
In addition to graduate entry into medicine, this major is also a pathway to Honours and postgraduate research in the medical science field.
As a graduate of this major, professional career pathways include but are not limited to medical research in various sectors, including the biotechnology industry, government laboratories and hospital settings; allied health; consulting; and higher education.
Any student (Domestic or International) in the Bachelor of Pre-Medicine, Science and Health, with a weighted GPA of 6.5 or above, who has met the minimal entry requirements for all other criteria, will be guaranteed an interview for the UOW Doctor of Medicine (MD).
Note: Students with a weighted GPA below 6.5, who have met all minimum entry requirements, will be considered using the standard entry pathway and competitive process.

Applicants must have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to completing 13 years of schooling in Australia.
To succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications.
This is particularly important for degrees with a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
