The Nutrition major builds basic science knowledge and skills in biology, chemistry, biochemistry and physiology to underpin fundamental nutrition concepts such as nutrient structure and function.
It introduces the relationship between food and health and the application of this knowledge in various settings in the community, including the food industry.
This major meets all prerequisites for accredited Master’s programs in Nutrition and Dietetics at UOW (and all programs throughout Australia).
It can also lead to pathways in further scientific research (Honours, PhD), public health (including progression to a Master of Public Health), a professional career in medicine (via graduate-entry medical courses), or teaching (through teaching degrees).
The grounding in nutrition science would also lend itself well to branching out into other areas with further study.
For example, fields like commerce, law, or business administration deal with food governance in society, and a science background would be helpful in these areas.
Any student (Domestic or International) in the Bachelor of Pre-Medicine, Science and Health, with a weighted GPA of 6.5 or above, who has met the minimal entry requirements for all other criteria, will be guaranteed an interview for the UOW Doctor of Medicine (MD).
Note: Students with a weighted GPA below 6.5, who have met all minimum entry requirements, will be considered using the standard entry pathway and competitive process.

Applicants must have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to completing 13 years of schooling in Australia.
To succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications.
This is particularly important for degrees with a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
