Bachelor of Laws

Designed and taught by practising lawyers and academics, Deakin’s accredited Bachelor of Laws combines sound legal training with real-world experience. 

You will develop key communication, problem-solving and analytical thinking skills and gain sought-after experience through substantial work-integrated learning opportunities.

Tailor your studies to a field of interest by choosing from various commercial and public law electives. 

Work with clients on real cases under the supervision of qualified solicitors at the Deakin Law Clinic, the community legal service that offers free legal advice.

Academic background and requirement

Current or recent Year 12

If you're currently studying Year 12 or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:

Year 12 prerequisite subjects 

  • Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English EAL (English as an Additional Language) or at least 25 in English other than EAL

 You may be considered for admission to this degree based on other qualifications as follows:

  • Higher education study
  • Polytechnic study
  • Work and life experience

 

  • China:

Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or one of Deakin's TAFE partners.

Australian Foundation Program:       80%

Note: Equivalent to an Australian Year 12 certificate.

 

  • India (standard class XII):     80%

 

Foundation Program:

The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. 

It aims to prepare you for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor's degree.
