You will get hands-on training in world-class laboratories, test your findings in real-life biomedical settings, and gain industry experience with 80 to 160 hours of work placement.
You’ll gain practical experience by completing a minimum 80-hour (maximum of 160 hours) placement at a course-related host organisation.
This provides opportunities for workplace visits, field trips, and industry learning and helps establish valuable networks, giving you better insight into your possible career outcomes.
You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake a discipline-specific industry placement as part of your course.
Elective units may also provide additional opportunities for work-integrated learning experiences.

You will take the Placement Test before the start of your course.
If you're currently studying Year 12 or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:
Year 12 prerequisite subjects
Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or one of Deakin's TAFE partners.
Australian Foundation Program: 65%
Note: Equivalent to an Australian Year 12 certificate.
The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs.
It aims to prepare you for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor's degree.
The Diploma of Health Sciences can give you direct entry into the second year of Deakin University bachelor's degrees in Exercise and Sports Science, Health Sciences, Nutrition Science, Psychological Science, Public Health and Health Promotion, and Biomedical Science.
