Through Deakin's Bachelor of Zoology and Animal Science, you will explore the social and economic impact of human activity on animals and their ecosystems.
Investigate how animals respond and adapt to environmental changes, including climate change, strongly focusing on Australian fauna and its unique importance in the global environment.
Apply the latest research techniques to test hypotheses in the real world and develop evidence-based decision-making skills valued by industry.
You will work with living subjects in the lab and field, giving you a first-hand understanding of the form and function of animals and the underlying mechanisms that influence their ecology and evolution.
You will also learn how animals respond to changing environments over time.
Best of all, your journey will be supported by teaching staff who share your passion for animals.
The course includes a compulsory professional practice unit that requires you to undertake at least 80 hours of work experience in a course-related host organisation.
Elective units may also provide additional opportunities for work-integrated learning experiences.

You will take the Placement Test before the start of your course.
If you're currently studying Year 12 or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:
Year 12 prerequisite subjects
Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or one of Deakin's TAFE partners.
Australian Foundation Program: 65%
Note: Equivalent to an Australian Year 12 certificate.
The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs.
It aims to prepare you for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor's degree.
The Diploma of Science is a direct pathway to the second year of Deakin bachelor degrees in Science, Biomedical Science, Environmental Science (majors in Management and Sustainability, Wildlife and Conservation Biology), Forensic Science, Zoology and Animal Science.
