You can undertake research on a number of topics that contribute to the success of New Zealand businesses in world markets, as well as to the international body of business knowledge.

What you study

To graduate with a Master of Business, you must successfully complete 180 points from:

  1. Specialisation courses
  2. Research methods course(s)
  3. A thesis (90 points) or dissertation (60 points)

Once you’ve completed the coursework component of your programme, you must complete a postgraduate research proposal before starting your thesis or dissertation. Once approved, your faculty will enrol you into the thesis or dissertation.

Language courses at AUT International House:

AUT International House is an English language school next to the AUT City Campus. It is part of AUT and offers a range of qualifications, including GIE – the AUT university entrance and preparation programme.

On-campus academic English courses (GIE and IELTS Full-time) at International House:

1) GIE (academic preparation and university entrance programme)

The GIE programme prepares you for entry into most AUT programmes (some health and education programmes require IELTS).

Entry requirement:

IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading and Writing and no less than 5.0 in Speaking and Listening

2) IELTS Full-time

Entry requirement:

There is a different entry requirement for each level of the IELTS course.

  • Level 1: you need IELTS 4.5 with a minimum band score of 4.0
  • Level 2: you need IELTS 5.5 with a minimum band score of 5.0

Academic background and requirement

Completed one of the following or equivalent with a B (70%-74%) grade average or higher in courses at level 7 or above:

  • Bachelor of Business OR
  • Graduate Diploma in Business

Admission to the Master of Business is subject to approval by the dean (or representative).

Postgraduate pathways to the Master of Business

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business (Honours), Postgraduate Diploma in Business, Postgraduate Certificate in Business and Professional Masters programmes in business, can apply for admission to the Master of Business.

 

Foundation programmes

If you don’t have the academic qualifications needed for direct entry into an AUT programme, you can enrol in a foundation programme.

The Pre-Master's Programme (PMP)
The PMP will provide you with the research skills and the English language knowledge you require to succeed in a postgraduate qualification at AUT.
