Professional construction engineers are involved with the design, planning and construction of the physical infrastructure that surrounds us.

Whether the project is high-density housing or commercial construction, these engineers design reliable processes and build quality structures.

AUT’s construction engineering programme will help you develop skills in construction management, structural engineering, materials technologies, construction systems, productivity improvement and waste reduction strategies.

Workplace experience

Your individual industry project in Year 4 is your opportunity to gain real-life industrial experience in a construction engineering environment, under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.

1_All applicants need to meet AUT’s minimum entry requirements qualification equivalent to New Zealand year 13 or University Entrance.

High school qualifications from different countries:

India: 

• 12 years of schooling with an overall average of 75% in four academic subjects, including a min 60% in English from the All-India Senior Certificate (AISSC).
• All other Higher Secondary State Board Examinations require an overall average of 80% in four academic subjects with a min 65% in English.

China:

• Senior High School graduation plus one year of successful study at bachelor's level; or
• Senior High School graduation plus completion of a two-year diploma, with good grades, at a recognized university.
• A Tier 1 score in the National University Entrance Examination (Gaokao) at a recognized institution

2_ Calculus (Mathematics) and Physics

Applicants must demonstrate competency in Calculus and Physics to at least level 3 or equivalent. This could be:

• NCEA: At least 14 level 3 credits in each of Calculus and Physics; or
• A completed or partially completed New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) or National Diploma in Engineering (NDE) with a B+ GPA (74.50-79.49%); or
• A completed Bachelor of Engineering Technology with a C+ GPA (59.50-64.49%); or
• A recognized certificate or national certificate containing mathematics and physics to the required level.

Foundation programmes

If you don’t have the academic qualifications needed for direct entry into an AUT programme, you can enroll in a foundation programme.

If you successfully complete the foundation programme and get the required grades, you are guaranteed entry into an appropriate AUT programme.
