Build your expertise to address public health challenges both now and in the future, and research a topic of your interest with the AUT Master of Public Health.

Develop advanced knowledge and skills to lead strategic changes in the community and public health across Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond. 

You’ll build expertise in addressing the social, economic, cultural, educational, and environmental factors that shape individual and community well-being.

AUT’s Master of Public Health advances best practices in this challenging field. 

It's ideal if you’re passionate about community well-being, tackling health inequities, or influencing health policy and strategy.

What you study

Advance your knowledge of contemporary public health challenges and strengthen your skills in shaping innovative health policies and programs. 

You’ll also research a topic of interest by completing either a thesis or a dissertation.

This program is committed to principles of equity, social justice, empowerment, community participation, and ownership.

All courses are offered via flexible learning, including a mix of block courses on campus and online, or blended learning.

If you do not meet the English language requirements for entry into an AUT programme, you can study English here.

Language courses at AUT International House:

AUT International House is an English language school next to the AUT City Campus. It is part of AUT and offers a range of qualifications, including GIE – the AUT university entrance and preparation programme.

On-campus academic English courses (GIE and IELTS Full-time) at International House:

1) GIE (academic preparation and university entrance programme)

The GIE programme prepares you for entry into most AUT programmes (some health and education programmes require IELTS).

Entry requirement:

IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading and Writing and no less than 5.0 in Speaking and Listening

2) IELTS Full-time

Entry requirement:

There is a different entry requirements for each level of the IELTS course.

  • Level 1: you need IELTS 4.5 with a minimum band score of 4.0
  • Level 2: you need IELTS 5.5 with a minimum band score of 5.0

 

You can also use IELTS Indicator and TOEFL Special Home Edition to meet English language requirements, except for programmes that require an IELTS score higher than the standard or for any doctoral programmes.


Academic background and requirement

Completed one of the following with a B (69.50-74.49%) average or higher:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Relevant graduate diploma

Other requirements:

May be admitted on the basis of a relevant professional qualification or professional experience approved by the Dean (or representative) to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
