You will acquire knowledge of ancient Greek language. This gives you access to literary texts, so you can develop an appreciation of ancient Greek literature, philosophy and history.
The Greeks established literary genres that have had a profound influence on European literature. Ancient Greek masterpieces include Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, the histories of Herodotus and the dramas of Euripides and Aristophanes.
Greek myth and legend is a formative element of the European imagination, and the central stream of European philosophy flows from the thought and writings of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.
You can take a major in Greek as one of the two components of your double major for a BA. You will need to pass at least 120 points (eight courses) towards each of your majors, including at least 45 points (three courses) at Stage III.
