What you can study in Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland

Pacific Studies develops your knowledge and awareness of Pacific cultures, identities, and experiences. 

You can explore Pacific histories, health, and well-being, social anthropology, languages (Samoan, Cook Islands Reo, Tongan), Indigenous epistemologies, dance, performance, material culture, and film. 

You can compare these areas across different Pacific cultures.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) comprises 24 courses across 3 years of full-time study (360 points/24 courses).

You must select two BA subjects as your two majors (The first and second major must be chosen when applying).

• Academic English Studies and Linguistics, Academic English Studies and Linguistics, Anthropology, Art History, Asian Studies, Chinese, Classical Studies and Ancient History, Communication, or
• Criminology, Drama, Economics, Education, Employment Relations and Organisation Studies, English, European Studies, French, or
• Gender Studies, Geography, German, Health and Society, History, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Linguistics, Logic and Computation, Mathematics, or
• Media and Screen Studies, Media and Screen Studies, Māori Studies, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, or
• Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, Statistics, TESOL, Theological and Religious Studies

Secondary school qualifications

India: You need to have one of the following:

• 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 75 percent in the All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSC), Indian School Certificate (ISC), Karnataka, Maharashtra, and West Bengal State Board Examinations with a minimum of 70 percent in English.
• 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 80 percent in all other Higher Secondary State Board Examinations with a minimum of 75 percent in English.

China:

• The National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) otherwise known as Gaokao. (Have a high school diploma or equivalent, Be in good health…) (Score required = 67%)

Tertiary qualifications

You can transfer from another tertiary institution if you meet these requirements.

• You need to have the following: One-year successful bachelor-degree level study at a recognized university (or similar institution) overseas.
• Grade required = GPE 2.4 (57%)
