Bachelor of Nursing

The Bachelor of Nursing (BNurs) curriculum reflects the university's multifaceted healthcare system, presenting an interprofessional view of patient care.

During your studies at the University of Auckland, you will be involved in clinical practice blocks and research based-clinical projects

These are designed to develop your critical thinking and practical knowledge.

The topics range from mental health nursing and older persons' health to child and family healthcare, Māori and Pacific health, medical and surgical nursing, management, and leadership in nursing.

After successful completion of the BNurs, graduates may apply for registration as a comprehensive nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Program structure

  • The BNurs is a six-semester program, comprised of three parts (360 points).
  • Year Three (Part III) has two core courses: Child and Family Health Nursing (60 points) and Professional Nursing Practice (60 points).

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

English Language Academy (ELA) pathway programs

You can meet undergraduate English-language requirements by successfully completing the following:

  • The Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP), or
  • The English Pathway for Undergraduate Studies (EPUS).

The ELA grades shown below are deemed to be equivalent to the following IELTS bands for admissions purposes.

  • IELTS 7.0: A- in FCertEAP or EPUS
  • IELTS 6.5: B- in FCertEAP or EPUS
  • IELTS 6.0: C- in FCertEAP or EPUS

 

1_ To be eligible for FCertEAP, students must: (Course length: 20 weeks)

  • Hold a conditional offer of place from a New Zealand tertiary institution that recognizes FCertEAP.
  • Meet the English Language entry requirements for FCertEAP through one of the below test results (see table). IELTS Indicator can also be accepted during 2022 until further notice.

Academic background and requirement

Secondary school qualifications

India: You need to have one of the following:

  • 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 75 percent in the All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSC), Indian School Certificate (ISC), Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal State Board Examinations with a minimum of 70 percent in English.
  • 12 years of schooling and an overall average of 80 percent in all other Higher Secondary State Board Examinations with a minimum of 75 percent in English.
  • Including one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics

China:

  • The National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) otherwise known as Gaokao. (Have a high school diploma or equivalent, Be in good health…) (Guaranteed grade = 75%)
  • Including one of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English

Tertiary qualifications

You can transfer from another tertiary institution if you meet these requirements.

  • You need to have the following: One-year successful bachelor-degree level study at a recognized university (or similar institution) overseas.
  • Grade required = GPE 4.0 (65-69%)
