Master of Marine Studies

The Master of Marine Studies at the University of Auckland is an advanced programme that will particularly appeal to international students who have completed an undergraduate degree in marine-related subjects. 

Programme overview

Learn about cross-disciplinary approaches to marine science, and develop your practical skills in research design, environmental management and field techniques.

Programme structure

The MMarineSt is an 18-month, 180-point programme. Students choose Option 1 or 2 and may begin their studies by enrolling in Semester One or Two for Option 1.

90 points for coursework (6 courses) and 90 points for research thesis MARINE 794A,B

Option 2

120 points of coursework (8 courses) and 60 point dissertation MARINE 792

English Language Academy pathway programs

You can meet postgraduate English language requirements by successfully completing:

  • The Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP), or
  • The English Pathway for Postgraduate Studies (EPPS).

The ELA grades shown below are deemed to be equivalent to the following IELTS bands for admissions purposes.

  • IELTS 7.0: A- in FCertEAP or EPPS
  • IELTS 6.5: B- in FCertEAP or EPPS

 

1-To be eligible for FCertEAP, students must: (Course length: 20 weeks)

  • Hold a conditional offer of place from a New Zealand tertiary institution that recognizes FCertEAP.
  • Meet the English Language entry requirements for FCertEAP through one of the below test results (see table).
  • IELTS Indicator can also be accepted during 2022 until further notice.
