Diploma in Applied Science for Engineering

Start a career in Engineering with Langara college’s Diploma in Applied Science.

This two-year program is designed for students who wish to study university engineering, but do not yet meet all the pre-requisites, or who need time to transition into the heavy workload that the study of engineering requires. 

Students will gain a thorough grounding in mathematics and natural sciences, including laboratory practice, and technical communications. 

They will also be introduced to Canadian engineering practice, history and social context, and engineering principles of case study and design.

Qualified diploma students have an assured seating option to take their final 40 credits as members of the Engineering Transfer Certificate class.

Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP)

Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) is an intensive ESL program designed to prepare students whose first language is not English for full-time study at English language universities and colleges.

Learn English - LEAP Program Highlights

  • Nine levels of ESL training, from beginner to advanced*
  • Seven-week sessions
  • 20 hours of classroom instruction and learning per week
  • Classes are scheduled Monday to Friday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm
  • Approximately two to four hours of homework per day
  • Integrated skills (develop all four skills together)
  • Academic topics
  • Graduation from LEAP 8 leads to direct admission to university studies at Langara

*Before the first day of the program, students take a placement test to determine their level


Academic background and requirement

BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent).

Additional Requirements

1. One of the following:

  • A minimum "B" grade in Chemistry 11 or equivalent; or
  • A minimum "C" grade in Chemistry 11 or equivalent and a minimum "C" grade in Chemistry 12 or equivalent.

2. One of the following:

  • A minimum "B" grade in Physics 11 or equivalent; or
  • A minimum "C" grade in Physics 12 or equivalent.

3. A minimum "C" grade in Precalculus 12.
