Graduate Certificate in Music Composition

This course is NOT offered this year.

Humber’s Music Composition graduate certificate program prepares you to write music for a number of professional environments including live performance, sound recording, film, television, video games and other visual media. In addition to the course work in this online program, you will be paired with a professional composer or songwriter who will mentor you as you compose original music and expand your portfolio. Composers of all genres of music are welcome. You’ll receive expert feedback in order to refine your skills, establish industry connections and understand the wide range of industry uses for composed music.

Pathways

Pathways are academic routes that students can take to move from one credential to another.

Master of Professional Creative Practice

Graduates of the Ontario Graduate Certificate from Humber College who meet the following criteria will be eligible to enter into the final 90 credits of the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) Master of Professional Creative Practice (180 credits) in New Zealand:

  1. Successful completion of the Humber Ontario Graduate Certificate in (A) Music Composition, (B) Television Writing and Producing, (C) User Experience (UX) Design or any other Humber Ontario Graduate Certificate with a focus area related to creative practice, subject to the clauses below ;
  2. Successful evaluation of portfolio of work submitted by the student;
  3. Successful interview with Programme Coordinator to determine the availability of faculty expertise and supervision as well as appropriate facilities for the student’s focus area; and,
  4. Achievement of the NZQA minimum English proficiency standards for a degree program by completing any Ontario Graduate Certificate.

Applicants will submit a sample of their original composed work (any style) in recorded and written form (score or lead sheet) that evidences musical competence.
2. International Credit Evaluation
Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a WES or ICAS evaluation.
