Humber’s Community and Justice Services diploma program prepares students to help create safe and healthy spaces by applying a social justice, inclusive and anti-oppressive lens in learning about community and institutional sectors of the justice system.
The curriculum combines theory and applied skills focusing on the development of strong interpersonal, problem-solving and assessment abilities.
You’ll be prepared for occupations where you will work with people in conflict with the law and other marginalized client groups and will learn about the development of community programs, correctional facilities, restorative justice initiatives and preventative measures.
Students will have the opportunity to gain the breadth of knowledge and experience needed to meet the demands of an entry-level position in the field of community and justice services.
You will have an opportunity to practise your skills and apply theoretical knowledge during a comprehensive 400-hour field experience with one organization.
This experience is typically unpaid.
Students will work in the field two days per week over Semesters 3 and 4 (200 hours each term).
Alongside this experience, you will also complete coursework and attend a seminar class.
With the support of a dedicated field advisor, students will use job search skills to find, apply for and interview with organizations in order to secure their field experience.
Once in the field, you will be supported by a seminar instructor who will guide you as you build your confidence and professional reputation.
