Diploma – Computer Systems Technician – Information Technology Infrastructure and Services

Humber’s Computer Systems Technician - Information Technology Infrastructure and Services diploma program prepare you for careers in information and communications technology (ICT). 

You will build a foundation in electrical and logic circuits, programming, and scripting. Program foundations include learning about the main hardware and software components of your computer and different features to improve the performance of computer systems. 

The curriculum in the program prepares you for the role of a system administrator whose responsibilities include installation, configuration and managing various operating systems including Microsoft servers, and different distributions of Linux, that are in demand in organizations.

The program will give you hands-on experience with various hardware platforms, protocols and services with a strong emphasis on network and data systems security. 

You will have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure in order to deploy and support Linux and Microsoft operating systems, and to administer web servers and applications using different scripting environments.

Your group projects help you build essential customer service skills, and develop your interpersonal communication and teamwork skills. 

Work Placement

This program offers a co-op option

Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. 

For students who are accepted into the program, one co-op work term will take place between Semesters 3 and 4. 

There are limited spaces in the co-op option. 

Therefore, you will apply for the co-op option during Semester 2 and be informed of the process by which to apply.

Academic background and requirement

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
    • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

  • With a minimum grade of 70 or above in required program subjects.

China:

  • The National Senior High School Examination with a minimum grade of 65% or C in relevant subjects (School Leaving Certificate).
  • Graduation Certificate awarded by senior (upper) middle school; may be academic or vocationally oriented with a minimum of C or 65% in relevant subjects.
  • Matriculation Examination with a minimum mark of 490.
