College Diploma - Community Worker

Community Worker is a two-year program that integrates local and global perspectives within a multi-level understanding of the historical, social, political, economic and systemic ways social issues have developed and are experienced by communities.

Grounded in social justice and human rights, the College provides students with the critical analyses, knowledge, skills and attitude required to work with diverse and historically marginalized individuals and communities on various concerns.

This program at George Brown College is under review for recognition by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)

Graduates of this program may apply to receive the additional designation of RSSW (Registered Social Service Worker). Extra fees may apply.

COMMUNITY WORKER PROGRAM FEATURES: 

  • Strong ties with more than 350 agencies across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
  • Twenty-plus-year relationship with Anishnawbe Health Toronto (AHT).
  • AHT’s Community Health Worker Training Program graduates can gain direct entry into the second year of the Community Worker program.
  • Founder and lead organizer of the annual Tommy Douglas Institute, which brings participants together to explore community, education and social justice in the twenty-first century.

Education pathway


Academic background and requirement

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • grade 12 English (C or U)

 

China:

  • Minimum grade of 60% (especially in English and Math)
  • Minimum grade of C in required subjects

 

India:

  • Graduated from senior secondary school
  • Minimum overall of 60% in 10th and 12th Grade for all streams
  • Minimum overall of 50% in English in 10th and 12th Grade
  • 12th passing scores in English and Math. If no 12th Math, 50% in 10th Math is required.

 

Iran:

  • Minimum scores of 50% (10 out of 20) in English, Math, and required courses.
