Bachelor of Science (Animal Science and Biology)

Animal Science:

Study key aspects of livestock health and welfare, product quality, farm safety, and animal ethics to ensure humane and sustainable food production

You will examine emerging technologies in animal breeding programs and learn to apply cognitive and technical skills in genetics.

Combine with a second major, such as Biology, Plant Agricultural Science, or Environment and Sustainability, to create a well-rounded agriculture degree and broaden your employment potential.

Has strategic partnerships in the Australian and international agriculture industry with multi-national agribusinesses and leading agencies, including John Deere, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Department of Environment and Science.

 

Biology:

With the Biology major in the Bachelor of Science at the University of Southern Queensland, you will gain a broad knowledge of biology, chemistry and communications, as well as the option of more detailed knowledge in disciplines such as biochemistry, genetics, microbiology and physiology.

This degree will give you a strong grounding for various science-related careers or more specialised postgraduate studies.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

EAP includes two levels, and each level takes 10 weeks to complete. 

To start your studies in EAP, you will need an IELTS result of at least 5.0 in the four macro skills or an equivalent recognised international English test.

Students from non-English backgrounds residing in Australia should meet the following entry requirements:

  • Completing senior secondary schooling in the home country or equivalent, Year 12 in an Australian High School, completed 'A' levels or mature age entry.
  • EAP I: IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
  • EAP II: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, postgraduate research and doctorate)

Animal Science:

General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent.

To study this degree, we also assume you have sound knowledge in:

Assume your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at the high school level (typically studied in Year 12).

To study this degree, we also assume you have sound knowledge in:

Assume your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at the high school (typically studied in Year 12). 

It is also recommended that you have studied Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C) and one of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent. 

If students do not have the recommended Mathematical Methods level for entry, they will be recommended to undertake MAT1000 Mathematics Fundamentals as an elective.
