Development, poverty, inequality and environmental sustainability are some of the most important issues in the world today.
This program at The University of Newcastle provides opportunities to study the causes and consequences of unequal development and assess policy options for a more equitable and sustainable future.
You will focus on key global issues locally, nationally or internationally.
You could find yourself employed for the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, helping developing countries address their internal constraints to trade, or more locally, you could work with an Indigenous community working to improve environmental sustainability.
This degree places a strong focus on both field trips and work placement.
Students’ fieldwork in places like the historically significant and sacred Aboriginal Baiame Cave in the Upper Hunter will allow them to develop research skills by interpreting the local environment.
Students can choose to develop their expertise in community development with placement as part of their degree.
Every major has a course available that includes a 140-hour placement with relevant industry partners.
Students can complete placements with various organisations, including local, state and federal government, not-for-profit organisations and private businesses.
