In this three-year advanced diploma program, you will study principles of the highway, municipal and building design, geotechnics, soil mechanics, and building code and develop skills in materials testing and surveying.
You will also learn to use many computer software packages such as AutoCAD, MicroSurvey, Civil 3D, ArcGIS and other advanced software packages specific to the building, municipal or transportation specialisations.
By the end of your program, you will work independently and in teams on capstone projects and technical reports, reflecting the culmination of several skills acquired by you during the program.
As a student of this program at Seneca College, you must achieve a minimum grade of “C” (60 per cent) in the Strength of Materials course.
The Civil Engineering Technology (CVT) program provides practical, hands-on experiential learning.
In providing a real-world experience, indoor and outdoor lab-based subjects will require appropriate industry health & safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
There are also expectations of having to do some heavy lifting of equipment and materials and navigating outdoor terrain and conditions.
It is strongly recommended that you have a laptop before the first day of this program. It should include the following technical specifications:

As an international student, you have the option of learning English at Seneca's English Language Institute (ELI) before starting your professional program.
There are eight (8) levels in the ELI that are seven (7) weeks in length each. There are six (6) start dates per year: January, March, May, July, September and November.
If you apply to a professional program and you do not meet Seneca’s English requirements, you may receive an Offer of Admission to your program that is conditional upon completion of the English Language Institute.
The college will use your English test score to place you at the most appropriate ELI level. If you do not have an English score, you will take a placement test when you arrive on campus.

After finishing Level 8, You will receive a Certificate of Standing from the ELI, and you will be automatically registered in your program at Seneca. You will not have to take another English test.
Mature applicants applying to degree programs must be 19 years old by the first day of scheduled classes and have been away from high school for at least two years.
Mature applicants must meet all program-specific prerequisite courses. Pre-admission testing is not permitted to meet degree program prerequisites.
