Overview

Master of Screen Producing

Become a creative leader and collaborator with the skills to turn ideas into reality.

The Master of Screen Producing is a practice-based coursework degree that gives you industry-leading knowledge and the skills to work as a professional producer in the rapidly transforming screen industry, and includes pathways for either research or professional experience.

You'll develop expertise across all aspects of screen producing – from gaining experience in the creative, practical, and business functions of this vital role to exploring emerging trends in contemporary screen culture and storytelling.

This degree at the University of Melbourne creates space for you to build networks for your future career, including the kinds of creative partnerships that could last a lifetime.

You'll benefit from mentoring by our expert staff at the Victorian College of the Arts, insights from industry guest speakers, and active engagement across student cohorts.

By the time you’ve finished your degree, you’ll have produced:

  • Two substantial market-ready short films
  • A pitch or development proposal to attract future funding
  • Either an industry-based attachment or a substantial research project.

Course structure

In your second year, you’ll choose between two pathways:

  • An industry-based attachment to embed yourself in the industry within Australia or overseas
  • Undertaking an original piece of practice-led research that challenges you to innovate in your own screen-producing practice.

You’ll also develop an individual or collaborative creative project.
