Overview

Bachelor of Health Information Management

La Trobe's Bachelor of Health Information Management combines healthcare's clinical and business sides to prepare you for a career as a health information expert. 

You'll develop a comprehensive skillset covering clinical classification, data analytics, health informatics and health systems management.

Build the foundation of your skills in health information management in your first year of study. 

Then deepen your technical and professional expertise throughout the rest of your degree, including 55 days of supervised professional placement.

With the perfect blend of expertise and experience, you'll graduate ready to work in all areas of healthcare – from hospitals and community health centres to specialist disease registries.

You'll learn the following:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Health informatics and data analysis
  • Health classification and clinical coding
  • Management of electronic health information systems
  • Health information ethics and Law

Compulsory placements (Work Based Learning)

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice.

Academic background and requirement

To enter La Trobe undergraduate programs, at a minimum, you’ll need to have completed Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent) with a particular grade. 

Subject Prerequisites:

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Biology, Chemistry, any Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics.

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

 

China:

China National College Entrance Examination (GAOKAO): 70%

China Senior Middle School 3 (Gao San): Not accepted. Completion of GAOKAO (or equivalent) is required.

 

India:

All Indian Secondary School Certificate: 80%

India State Boards: 80%

 

Foundation Study: 

Foundation Studies is a bridging course to prepare international students for their University studies. 

Completing the Foundation Studies program with a 60% grade point average will provide you with a guaranteed pathway into the first year of an undergraduate degree at La Trobe University.
