Master of Health Information Management

You'll combine the clinical and business sides of healthcare to create a career improving the quality of patient care.

Prepare for this highly skilled profession by building strong foundations in clinical classification, data analytics, health informatics and health systems management.

Then deepen your technical and professional expertise with professional practice placements in healthcare agencies. 

You'll also receive management training to help you step straight into senior roles in healthcare.

From hospitals and community health centres to specialist disease registries – you'll graduate prepared to build a career in any area of healthcare.

You'll learn the following:

  • Health informatics
  • Health data analysis
  • Health classification and clinical coding
  • Management of electronic health information systems
  • Health information governance

Students who have not completed a degree in medicine, biomedical science, science (with studies in anatomy and physiology), dentistry, nursing, allied health, or health sciences (containing anatomy and physiology subjects) must undertake the Physiology and Anatomy preparatory module

This enables students to develop the critical foundational knowledge required to undertake the course.

Compulsory placements (Work Based Learning)

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent).

WAM - Weighted Average Mark (WAM) 70%

195 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (2 years)

Successful completion of an Australian Graduate Certificate in Digital Health (HCDHBU or HCDHO) with 5 years of equivalent industry experience.

180 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (18 months)

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate Health Data Integrity and Auditing (HCHIA) with 5 years of coding-related work experience and successful completion of a prescribed Coding Challenge exam.

180 credit point pathway - COGNATE ENTRY (18 months)
