In the Computer Science major you learn effective ways to solve computing problems and devise new ways to use computing technologies. You explore advanced aspects of technical software, including how to devise computing algorithms for new technologies, and how to develop multi-tasking systems and 3D user interfaces.

In your final year you can complete a research project, investigating a scientific problem. This course counts as two courses and you can complete it over one semester or the whole year. It isn't compulsory.
Through this course you develop skills in experimental design, literature searching, the collection and analysis of data, interpretation and reporting of the results.
Recent student projects included: a game theoretical approach to how people behave when confronted with stalking.

AUT International House is an English language school next to the AUT City Campus. It is part of AUT and offers a range of qualifications, including GIE – the AUT university entrance and preparation programme.
On-campus academic English courses (GIE and IELTS Full-time) at International House:
The GIE programme prepares you for entry into most AUT programmes (some health and education programmes require IELTS).
Entry requirement:
IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading and Writing and no less than 5.0 in Speaking and Listening

There is a different entry requirement for each level of the IELTS course.
All applicants need to meet AUT’s minimum entry requirements qualification equivalent to New Zealand year 13 or University Entrance.

Consider starting with the university Certificate in Science and Technology.
If you don’t have the academic qualifications needed for direct entry into an AUT programme, you can enrol in a foundation programme.
If you successfully complete the foundation programme and the get the required grades, you are guaranteed entry into an appropriate AUT programme.

AUT has established a partnership with NCUK, enabling you to study at a NCUK Study Centre in your home country, and then come directly into your chosen AUT degree.
