Management skills are needed across the sport and recreation industries. The sports field isn’t like a traditional business and neither are the management skills needed to succeed in this area.
With the large number of professional athletes, sports organisations, facilities and events in New Zealand, people with specialist business and management skills are in high demand.
You learn from staff with international and national experience, and have the opportunity to work with local and national sporting bodies and events.
In your third year you complete 350 to 400 hours in an organisation, which includes working on a project related to your major through the Cooperative Education courses. This takes approximately two days per week.

Consider starting with the university Certificate in Sport and Recreation.
If you don’t have the academic qualifications needed for direct entry into an AUT programme, you can enrol in a foundation programme.
If you successfully complete the foundation programme and the get the required grades, you are guaranteed entry into an appropriate AUT programme.
NCUK pathways
AUT has established a partnership with NCUK, enabling you to study at a NCUK Study Centre in your home country, and then come directly into your chosen AUT degree.

AUT International House is an English language school next to the AUT City Campus. It is part of AUT and offers a range of qualifications, including GIE – the AUT university entrance and preparation programme.
On-campus academic English courses (GIE and IELTS Full-time) at International House:
The GIE programme prepares you for entry into most AUT programmes (some health and education programmes require IELTS).

IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading and Writing and no less than 5.0 in Speaking and Listening
