What can you study in Civil Engineering?

The university strongly values advanced research; this is reflected in the range of facilities and specialised expertise the university offers, all potentially tailored to suit individual interests. Some areas of in-depth study include:

Advanced structural dynamics, Earthquake engineering, Excavation engineering, Experimental and computational geotechnical engineering, Fire engineering, Highway and pavement engineering, Infrastructure asset management, Rock mechanics, Seismic structural design.

The university is also involved in many real-world projects, with some students contributing to projects around the country, including: 

the Christchurch rebuild, improving transportation systems in Auckland and the rest of the country, building dams and reservoirs, and responding to natural disasters. They’re also part of the decision-making process in local and regional councils

English Language Academy pathway programmes

You can meet postgraduate English language requirements by successfully completing:
1_ The Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP), or
2_ The English Pathway for Postgraduate Studies (EPPS).


Academic background and requirement

Taught 180 points:

You must have completed an undergraduate engineering degree at a recognised university (or similar institution), in a field similar to your intended specialisation (Engineering, Construction, Architecture or another similar discipline).

You will need a GPE of 4.0 (65%-69.9%).

Other pathways to study

If you do not meet the GPE requirement, you can still gain entry by passing 60 points towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering with a GPA of 4.0.

In exceptional circumstances, the university will consider you for entry if you have completed an undergraduate degree and have three years of work experience in engineering.
