Master of Arts - Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology offers the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts (thesis-based).

During the course of their programs, MA students will be required to attend two two-hour Professional Development Workshops offered by the Department of which one shall be the departmental graduate student research ethics workshop.

Students must prepare an acceptable MA thesis according to Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research regulations and Department expectations. Students must demonstrate proficiency in the handling of any research tools, such as statistics or a foreign language, to the satisfaction of the examining committee.

Academic background and requirement

For the MA program (thesis-based), the Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree in Anthropology or a closely related discipline with an admission GPA of at least 3.3 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
