The Master of Arts program is designed to integrate these important elements in an educational experience promoting a high level of expertise and professionalism. The university currently offers opportunities for graduate studies in Applied Linguistics for those interested in the field of Teaching English as a Second/Subsequent Language (TESL). Graduates of this professional program will be well-prepared to become TESL professionals, practicing in Canada or abroad AND/OR prepared for future graduate pursuits in fields related to Applied Linguistics, including Speech Language Pathology. Program Length: 12 months to 2 years depending on previous educational background in related disciplines and choice of program (i.e., course-based or thesis-based).
Research Stream (Thesis or Major Research Paper)/Full-time students only.
Course Based Stream: Full-time and Part-time students considered.
Course-work and Thesis – 4 terms (16 months)/ This stream is funded

ESC (Language School Pathway): Completion of the UCTP

CLLC (Language School Pathway): Completion of UPP Level 7
Applicants should have a four year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) undergraduate background which includes English linguistics, TESL, or a comparable field, with courses relevant to the theory and practice of Teaching English as a Subsequent Language (e.g. general linguistics, syntax, phonology, discourse analysis, or other linguistics courses with a focus on English; educational psychology or similar courses related to ESL learning; ESL teaching methodology; or ESL practice teaching)
