Overview

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy

Philosophy begins and ends in wonder; it requires passion, and hard work and it is a lot of fun. There is only one way to “know thyself,” as Socrates said, and that is to ask yourself where you stand on some basic human questions.

For Kant, to ask “What is Human Being?” is to ask three basic questions: “What can I know? What ought I do? For what may I hope?” But, as Marx said, we do not just want to interpret the world, “The point is to change it.”

Philosophy is not an empty debating club; it is a militant project of profound social and political transformation.

Most people assume that the social, political and everyday worlds and attitudes are simply what they inherit, either from genetic constitutions or socio-economic, material situations.

Philosophy, on the contrary, teaches that human beings largely fashion lives and worlds by the choices people make, the words and concepts they employ, the thoughts and perceptions they generate, and how they interact and interrelate with others.

The philosophy program at King’s University College offers you the opportunity to follow a general stream of study with the possibility of focusing on world philosophies and cultures and/or social and political thought

Committed to humanist and personalist models of teaching, classes will help you develop critical reasoning skills, sustained thinking and reading abilities, sound argumentation, and, above all, philosophical capacities for reflection and insight.

The unique foundation year in philosophy for all majors and specialists not only gives you enhanced basic training in philosophy but also helps you participate in and form unique study and philosophy communities.
