Overview

Bachelor of Mathematics and Statistics

This degree seems to be omitted.

Mathematics has a rich history as a liberal art, and enjoys deep connections to philosophy. The language of mathematics can also help us understand the physical and social dimensions of our world, including in:•actuarial science (the statistical study of risk)•modeling, forecasting and simulation •data analytics (including for the social sciences)The mathematics and statistics courses offered at King’s provide a foundation for studies in economics, finance, social science, and all streams of management. Students majoring in any discipline at King’s are also eligible to take many courses through the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Western.

The mathematical and statistical sciences help us uncover hidden truth, and provide a precise language for the exploration of questions in disciplines across the social sciences, humanities, sciences, and engineering.

These subjects thus advance both beauty and utility. In the School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics at King's, we offer a variety of courses in aligned subjects including:

  • preparatory mathematics  (for students who need a refresher or upgrade on their high school mathematics)
  • actuarial and financial mathematics
  • calculus
  • finite mathematics
  • linear algebra
  • statistics
  • data analytics

In collaboration with faculty from Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Management, Philosophy, and Psychology, we also offer a minor in Analytics and Decision Sciences (ADS). This interdisciplinary program is unique to King's and allows students to focus on the intersection between data and decision making, bringing mathematics into a new kind of venture with the managerial and social sciences. This minor can be combined with any major, specialization, or honors specialization at any Western campus (King's, Brescia, Huron, or main*) to create a more customized degree program.
