Overview

Diploma - Heavy Equipment Technician

Whether you want to work as a mechanic in the mines or in construction, you must start with the basics; and just like industry, it always starts with safety

Working with and around Heavy Equipment is about a culture of safety, to recognize potentially dangerous conditions and situations and avoid them; this way of thinking is strongly supported at Cambrian College.

The college follows the Ontario apprenticeship training standards so you be sure to be getting the right training for the trade to be ready to start your career as a Heavy Equipment Technician apprentice upon graduation.

This program features an optional, paid co-op directly related to your program of study.

During this work-integrated learning experience, you’ll apply your skills and knowledge in an actual work environment, giving you industry training that you can showcase to potential employers when you graduate.

Program Highlights:

  • 2 years – 4 semesters
  • Upon successful completion of the program, your diploma equates to three levels of theory required towards your apprenticeship Certificate of Qualification.
  • Work on off-road heavy equipment such as loaders, bulldozers, trucks, and various components like engines, transmissions, brake systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems found in the heavy equipment shop.
  • Enhanced teaching and learning techniques to develop your critical thinking skills so that you are ready to take on a task from the start to its completion.
  • Graduates of this program can come back for a third year and complete the second year of the Truck and Coach Technician program and receive a diploma in that program as well.
