The Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) (Honours) at Federation University will equip you with the necessary communication, technical and problem-solving skills required to meet the high demand for graduates in mining engineering in Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.

Throughout the program, you will explore study areas in mineral deposit evaluation and processing, underground production systems, mine power and services, surface mining operations and mine environment and safety to establish best practices in sustainable and safe mining.

As an added benefit, the Industry Placement Program allows you to gain valuable and relevant workplace experience

Take part in a two-year professional development program and receive up to 26 weeks of placement and an industry scholarship of up to $15,000.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) (Honours) is a four-year program accredited by Engineers Australia – the global home for engineering professionals renowned as leaders in shaping a sustainable world.

As an accredited mining engineer, you can work in government and private organisations, mining companies and consulting firms to design, install and supervise the use of mining machinery and equipment, inspect the progress of mining operations and work with geologists to investigate and carry out the extraction of ore bodies and mineral deposits.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

The English and Academic Preparation (EAP) program is a non-award University accredited access and preparatory pathway program for non-English speaking international students intending to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate degree studies at Federation University Australia.

International students cannot apply directly for EAP programs, they must apply for an Undergraduate or Postgraduate program and provide their English test scores.

Federation offers a range of English pathways to degree programs.

Academic background and requirement

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 with final-year mathematics courses or overseas equivalent.

Students with post-school qualifications (e.g. diplomas, advanced diplomas) may be considered for admission with advanced standing or credit (recognition of prior learning).

China:

  • Gao San (Senior High Year 3) (Year 12) with an average of 75% in four academic subjects. OR
  • 高考Gao Kao cut-off score for Tier 2 Chinese Universities. OR
  • Completion of one-year post-secondary study with at least an average score of 70% at a recognized institution.

India: 

  • Completion of All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate (CISCE) with an average of 60% in the best four academic subjects*.
  • OR Higher Secondary Certificate with an average of 70% (for Punjab and Haryana) or 65% (for other State Boards)in the best four academic subjects*

*excludes local languages, work experience, physical education and other nonacademic subjects

Pathways:

1- Foundation Studies Program

This pre-university program is designed specifically for students to meet the requirements to enter the first year of an undergraduate degree or one of the Higher Education Diplomas.

2- Enrol in single courses such as MATHS1001 Modelling and Change or MATHS1005 Secrets of the Matrix to demonstrate ability to be successful on the program.

Note: Foundation Access Studies (FAST) program is not available to international students.
