Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours)

In this program at Federation University, you’ll learn about electric circuits and machines, thermodynamics and industrial robots in the world-class $43 million Science and Engineering precinct at the Mt Helen campus in Ballarat, Victoria.

Build a strong foundation in the first year with subjects in machine design, simulation in engineering and energy conversion. 

Then, in the final year, pursue an exciting area with your unique engineering project.

As an added benefit, the Industry Placement Program allows you to gain valuable and relevant work experience. 

Take part in a two-year professional development program and receive up to 26 weeks of placement and an industry scholarship of up to $15,000.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours) is a four-year program accredited by Engineers Australia – the global home for engineering professionals renowned as leaders in shaping a sustainable world.

As an accredited graduate, you will be involved in design specification, development, research, evaluation, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and management of machines and systems. 

This will include but is not limited to mechanical and mechatronic systems, automated systems and robotic devices, heat transfer processes, thermodynamic and combustion systems and fluid and thermal energy systems.

The graduates are highly sought after by industry, and employed by large, medium and small engineering organisations, both locally and nationally.

Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

The English and Academic Preparation (EAP) program is a non-award University accredited access and preparatory pathway program for non-English speaking international students intending to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate degree studies at Federation University Australia.

International students cannot apply directly for EAP programs, they must apply for an Undergraduate or Postgraduate program and provide their English test scores.

Academic background and requirement

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 with final-year mathematics courses or overseas equivalent.

Students with post-school qualifications (e.g. diplomas, advanced diplomas) may be considered for admission with advanced standing or credit (recognition of prior learning).

China:

  • Gao San (Senior High Year 3) (Year 12) with an average of 75% in four academic subjects. OR
  • 高考Gao Kao cut-off score for Tier 2 Chinese Universities. OR
  • Completion of one-year post-secondary study with at least an average score of 70% at a recognized institution.

India: 

  • Completion of All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate (CISCE) with an average of 60% in the best four academic subjects*.
  • OR Higher Secondary Certificate with an average of 70% (for Punjab and Haryana) or 65% (for other State Boards)in the best four academic subjects*

*excludes local languages, work experience, physical education and other nonacademic subjects

Foundation Studies Program

This pre-university program is designed specifically for students to meet the requirements to enter the first year of an undergraduate degree or one of the Higher Education Diplomas.

University studies

Enrolling in single subjects (courses) allows you to demonstrate your ability to succeed in study at this level. 

Re-apply with credit to the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Information Engineering) (Honours) for the next intake. Recommended subjects include:
