With this degree at Federation University, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to be a confident teacher in settings that range from pre-schools through to Year 6.

You’ll gain experience in schools and various programs, which will help you to perfect your skills and develop your understanding of what it takes to be a teacher. 

You may work with children with disabilities or support those who are disengaged with learning. 

You’ll learn exactly what type of teacher you are and how to use your unique skills to benefit your students.

Depending on previous qualifications, you can choose your entry point and tailor your studies to finish in three to four years.

You will undertake 110 days of supervised teaching placement in both early childhood and primary settings. 

Work Integrated Learning

This program requires a total of 820 placement hours across 22 weeks.

Essential requirements for selection and application:

CASPer

All applicants must sit the CASPer assessment. 

CASPer is a requirement for many of Victoria's initial teacher training courses. 

It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes.

• Academic transcripts/results
• Graduation/completion certificates for any completed qualifications
• Official English language translations for all documents not in English
• Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable)
• Passport or visa documents (if applicable)
• Confirmations of Enrolment (CoEs) (if applicable)
• Syllabuses/detailed course outlines if you require a credit assessment.

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 with minimum study scores of 25 in units 3 and 4 in English or 30 for English as an Alternative Language or Dialect and Units 1 and 2 of Mathematics;  or overseas equivalent.

Students with post-school qualifications (e.g. diplomas, advanced diplomas) may be considered for admission with advanced standing or credit (recognition of prior learning).

China:

• Gao San (Senior High Year 3) (Year 12) with an average of 75% in four academic subjects. OR
• 高考Gao Kao cut-off score for Tier 2 Chinese Universities. OR
• Completion of one-year post-secondary study with at least an average score of 70% at a recognized institution.

India: 

• Completion of All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate (CISCE) with an average of 60% in the best four academic subjects*.
• OR Higher Secondary Certificate with an average of 70% (for Punjab and Haryana) or 65% (for other State Boards)in the best four academic subjects*

*excludes local languages, work experience, physical education and other nonacademic subjects

Pathways:

TAFE studies: Apply for a relevant TAFE course at any TAFE provider, and then apply to articulate into this program.

University studies: Consider beginning your teaching studies with a pathway degree in Bachelor of Education Studies.  

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is not available to international students.
