Year 1
You’ll study six core courses that provide foundation knowledge required for the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences and the four majors.
Compulsory first-year courses for all majors are: Programming Concepts and Techniques, Computing Technology in Society, Mahitahi/Collaborative Practices, Mathematics for Computing, IT Project Management and Database System Design.
You also take the first Course to your chosen major(s).
Year 2 and 3
You specialise in your chosen major(s), and develop strong technical knowledge in IT, creative problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse, design and maintain IT solutions.
You gain professional skills and knowledge in programming, IT infrastructure and networks, communication and teamwork, ethics and professional practice, security and information systems.
In Year 2, you may also take courses towards a chosen minor. In Year 3, you work on a real-life research and development project relevant to your major which may involve software development or commercial research for an industry organisation.

AUT International House is an English language school next to the AUT City Campus. It is part of AUT and offers a range of qualifications, including GIE – the AUT university entrance and preparation programme.
On-campus academic English courses (GIE and IELTS Full-time) at International House:
The GIE programme prepares you for entry into most AUT programmes (some health and education programmes require IELTS).
Entry requirement:
IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading and Writing and no less than 5.0 in Speaking and Listening
Entry requirement:
There is a different entry requirement for each level of the IELTS course.
All applicants need to meet AUT’s minimum entry requirements qualification equivalent to New Zealand year 13 or University Entrance.
