The programs are designed to educate students about philosophical discussions of central questions in ethics, political philosophy, theory of knowledge, metaphysics and philosophy of science, among other areas. This includes learning the history of these subjects as well as understanding current debates. In gaining this knowledge students develop crucial skills of articulation, critical thinking, intellectual independence and the ability to understand others’ viewpoints and assumptions.
At a time when people are challenged to discern the real from the fake, the true from the false, where bias and prejudice make their way into popular discourse, philosophy provides you with the essential capacities for critical thinking, clear verbal and written communication, and problem-solving.
Pursue questions that have stimulated thinkers across eras and cultures. How should we live? What is it to be a person? Explore these and other questions through modern issues in artificial intelligence, politics, sexuality, and the environment in small seminars and field courses. You will acquire skills in reasoning, communication, critical thinking, intellectual independence, and the ability to understand others’ viewpoints and assumptions.
Philosophy teaches you to bring a critical viewpoint to what you read and hear, to consider things from various perspectives, to scrutinize your beliefs and your assumptions, and to formulate clear arguments.
