Overview

Honours Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies

The Theater Studies program is a component of a liberal education, and is dedicated to integrating academic study and theater practice. The program offers introductory and advanced courses that combine theory and practice with an emphasis on educating well-rounded theater creators for both the academic and professional spheres. Students will have the opportunity to work on both scripted and devised productions and do in-depth research and analysis. Rather than a focus on individual disciplines such as acting, directing, design and technical theater, the program integrates this knowledge into a series of variable topic courses that examine performance from various perspectives. Many of these courses have presentation or performance outcomes.

The Theater Studies program at Guelph is a degree option within the B.A. Program and is dedicated to the integrated study of both academic and practical applications of performance and theater.

The Theater Studies program at the University of Guelph cultivates critical thinkers, theater artists, and creative performance makers engaged with our media saturated world.

Students explore a range of approaches balanced between performance and production including: writing for performance, site-specific devising, acting and directing, puppetry, scenography, and digital performance creation.

As a Theater Studies student,Analyze plays, attend professional productions, study theater history, and act and participate in technical work. Participate in productions as an actor or working behind the scenes in our newly renovated performing arts wing. Attend productions, meet professionals and study in Stratford, Ontario with coaches from the Stratford Festival. Auditions not required for entry.
