Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours)

Speech pathologists improve a person's abilities, and they also work to improve quality of life. 

Launch your career in this rewarding field of health with La Trobe's Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours).

You'll develop an understanding of the anatomy behind speech and swallowing impairments and provide therapeutic treatment and management options. 

Build hands-on skills with approximately 1,000 hours of placement on-campus and in clinics across Victoria. 

You'll also learn how to improve speech pathology services and policies by tackling a fourth-year industry project or research thesis.

You'll learn the following:

  • Therapeutic intervention and management
  • Anatomy and neurophysiology
  • The Science of Speech and Hearing

Compulsory placements (Work Based Learning)

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice.

Academic background and requirement

To enter La Trobe undergraduate programs, at a minimum, you’ll need to have completed Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent) with a particular grade. 

Subject Prerequisites:

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in one of Biology, Chemistry, any Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics or Health and Human Development.

 

China:

China National College Entrance Examination (GAOKAO): 70%

China Senior Middle School 3 (Gao San): Not accepted. Completion of GAOKAO (or equivalent) is required.

 

India:

All Indian Secondary School Certificate: 80%

India State Boards: 80%

 

Foundation Study: 

Foundation Studies is a bridging course to prepare international students for University studies. 

Completing the Foundation Studies program with a 60% grade point average will provide a guaranteed pathway into the first year of an undergraduate degree at La Trobe University.
