Overview

Bachelor of Biological Science - Plant Biology (Extended Major)

A Bachelor of Biological Science from UWA will equip you with skills and knowledge that are highly valued and sought after by a diverse range of employers around the globe, and enable you to understand the vulnerabilities and resilience of life on the planet.

You’ll explore the growth, reproduction, adaptation and evolution of living organisms and discover how species and ecological communities can be managed, conserved and restored.

In Plant Biology, you will study plants from molecular, cellular, and physiological perspectives and develop an understanding of the molecular characterisation of plant development and reproduction, as well as genetic, genomic and physiological studies that aim to elucidate how plants interact with their environments.

In addition, you will study the abundance and diversity of plant species and how these have evolved, using molecular and genetic tools.

As a student of the Plant Biology major, you will be trained to apply a combination of scientific knowledge from botany, molecular sciences and genetics, working on applications to real-world problems such as how plants adapt to climate change impacts and how to produce healthier and more sustainable foods for the future.
