Overview

Master of Counselling

The Master of Counselling at Victoria University (VU) is a two-year program that provides students with the knowledge and skills to become professional counsellors

The program is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Counselling and psychological theory
  • Counselling interventions and psychological therapies (for adults, children, adolescents, and families)
  • Practical skills through industry-based learning and placement
  • Insights into a range of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, loss, and addictions
  • Understanding of the ethics of counselling

Students will also complete a practice-based minor thesis as part of the program.

The Master of Counselling at VU is designed to prepare students for a career in various settings, including private practice, community agencies, schools, and hospitals. 

Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply for membership with the ACA, which is the peak professional body for counsellors in Australia.

Academic background and requirement

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Completion of an Australian Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline
OR
Completing an Australian Graduate Diploma (or equivalent) in a similar discipline.
AND
Suitability for the profession of counselling as determined at an interview.
PLUS
IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 7.0 (with no band less than 6.5 in Reading & Writing and 7.5 in Speaking & Listening)
