Master of Information Technology - Network Technology

Carleton University's Master of Information Technology (MIT) degree addresses the needs of industry and society in the IT area, providing students with the skills they will need to succeed in this demanding and ever-evolving field. 

The Master’s degree consists of Network Technology (NET) and Digital Media (DM) programs. Those pursuing the NET program will cover computer networks' design, management, and operation. 

They will develop research skills through courses and a project framework.

Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL): 70 (min 60 in each band)

If your first language is not English, you can prove your language proficiency by:

  • presenting one of the official Language Proficiency (ESL) test scores as defined in the table;
  • showing that you have completed ESLA 1900 or ESLA 1905 at Carleton University with a final grade of B- or higher; or
  • present official certification (transcripts) that you have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree within the past three years in a university in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, or any country in which the primary language is English, where the language of instruction in the relevant educational institution was English, and the language of instruction in their most recently completed undergraduate or graduate degree was English.

Note: Letters from your universities stating the medium of instruction is English are not acceptable.


Academic background and requirement

  • Students entering the program will have an undergraduate degree in network technology, electrical engineering, computer science, engineering, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Applicants with substantial professional experience in network technology in Canada may be considered for admission to professional entry, requiring them to complete 4.0 credits, to be determined by the School of Information Technology and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs.
