The School of Mathematics and Statistics offers an MSc that focuses on diverse areas including statistics, probability, discrete mathematics, applied mathematics, algebra and analysis, cryptography research for government, networks, coding theory and fluid dynamics. 

There is also a specialized program in Biostatistics, in conjunction with the University of Ottawa, as well as concentrations in both Mathematics and Statistics. 

The School is a member of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mathematics and Statistics (OCIMS), which offers one of the largest graduate programs in mathematics and statistics in Canada. 

Students can take courses and access research resources at both Carleton and the University of Ottawa.

Academic background and requirement

An honour’s bachelor’s degree in mathematics, or the equivalent, with at least B+ in the honours subject and a B- overall. Applicants holding a three-year degree, with at least a B+ average, may be admitted to a qualifying-year program. PHD: A master’s degree in math.
