Language pathway (conditional offer) is available

If you're applying to a program offered by Engineering and Computer Science, Fine Arts (Art History and Visual Studies only), Humanities, Science or Social Sciences, you may be offered conditional admission

You'll be permitted to register for degree courses during the usual registration time period, but you must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement by the date specified in your offer email.

You can qualify for conditional admission if you do one of the following:

  • Provide a CAEL score of 60 with no section less than 50.
  • Provide an IELTS score of 6.0 with no component less than 5.5.
  • Provide a TOEFL score of at least 79 on the iBT (internet-based test) with at least 17 on each section
  • Register in the university admission preparation course.

Note: We will not consider tests taken more than two years before your application.


Academic background and requirement

Twelve years of academic preparation and graduation from a recognized senior secondary school or completion of a recognized diploma program.

University entrance examinations offered in the home country may also be required.

Iran

  • Diploma Metevaseth
  • National High School Diploma (after 12 years) or Pre-university year

China (PRC)

  • Senior high school graduation showing grade results for Senior Years 1, 2 and 3 with a minimum overall average of 85%.
    • The actual cutoff average required for admission may be higher depending on the competitiveness of the program.
  • Huikao or Academic Proficiency Test (APT) results.
  • National Chinese Entrance Examinations (Gaokao) with an acceptable score.
    • Advanced Placement (AP) Exams in at least 3 subjects, SAT, or ACT scores may be permitted as a substitution in some cases.
    • Applicants completing an International Baccalaureate Diploma or GCE A-levels do not need to submit Gaokao results.

India

Twelve years of academic preparation and one of the following:

  • Indian Senior School Certificate (CISCE) or All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) with at least 75%.
    • UVic may offer conditional admission if you have 80% or higher on the Secondary School Examination (Class X).
    • The actual cutoff average required for admission may be higher than stated due to limits on enrollment.
  • Year 12 State Board Exams: Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC); applicants with excellent academic results will be considered on a case-by-case basis
