This program at York focuses on applied economic theory. 

University offers a one-year, coursework master’s degree program as well as a PhD program.

Resources for graduate students are excellent, from libraries that subscribe to all of the major economic journals to computer labs available to students 24 hours a day.

You’ll have access to three powerful Unix-based servers that run advanced computing applications such as Gauss, S-plus, Garch, Wavelette, SAS, Stata, IMSL and Unix versions of Maple and TSP.

  • Students who successfully complete Level AP5 may apply to the York University English Language Institute’s YUBridge Program, where they can take a class for academic credit while completing the remainder of their language proficiency requirements to be admitted to York.
  • Levels AP6-AP9 focus on the language, critical thinking and study skills required to be a successful student in a university or college setting where English is the language of instruction.
  • Students who successfully complete Level AP6 are eligible to apply for Conditional Admission* to York University. Students with conditional acceptance are also eligible to apply to the Pre-Destination York Program.

Academic background and requirement

Students must demonstrate competence in Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Statistics by enrolling in Economics 5000 0.0: Mathematics Cognate and obtaining a passing grade. 

The Mathematics cognate requirement will not be included among the eight half-courses required for the master’s degree.
Note: This course is evaluated as a Pass/No Pass course and is not to be included as part of the 24 credits required.
Attendance in the classes, which are offered in August, is highly recommended but not compulsory. 

The course exam which is scheduled at a date near the beginning of the Fall term must be passed by all master’s students.
