This Major is not offered currently.

The Mathematics program is available as a major, double major or honours option for a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. 

There are also Minor degrees, including a Minor in Financial Math and a Minor in Computational Studies.

Why Mathematics at UNB?

In numerous rankings of careers, a significant portion of the top careers are math-intensive, and a degree in Mathematics provides excellent training. 

For instance, CareerCast annually ranks 200 careers according to environment, income, outlook, and stress, and Mathematician, Actuary, Statistician, Data Scientist, Information Security Analyst, and Computer Systems Analyst regularly rank in the top ten.

Two Options

Mathematics:

The mathematics major degree is designed to prepare you for a career in industry, government or education. Mathematics students are urged to obtain expertise in applications such as the physical sciences, computer science, engineering or business.

Statistics: 

The statistics major degree is designed to prepare you for a career in industry or government and provide a background for graduate study. 

Statistics students are urged to obtain expertise in applications such as the physical sciences, forestry, or computer science.

Hands-on learning

  • There are summer employment opportunities (e.g. NSERC's Undergraduate Student Research Awards) for upper-year students.
  • The Faculty of Science has a Co-op degree program.

International students who do not have an English test score or still need to improve their English skills may be accepted into an undergraduate program on the condition that they will complete full-time English Language Training at UNB before starting their undergraduate degree.

Ideal candidates

  • International students who have been accepted to undergraduate or graduate programs at UNB Saint John — or who plan to apply — but who need to improve their English as a condition of their acceptance

Here are the test score requirements for each level of the EAP program:

  • Level 2 (Beginner I): CAEL 10+ | IELTS 2.0 - 3.0
  • Level 3 (Beginner II): CAEL 20 | IELTS 3.5 - 4.0 
  • Level 4 (Intermediate I): CAEL 30 | IELTS 4.5 - 5.0
  • Level 5 (Intermediate II): CAEL 40 | IELTS 5.5

Academic background and requirement

  • Course requirements:
    • Senior English Literature
    • Senior Math, including Pre-Calculus
    • Senior Chemistry
    • 1 of Senior Physics, Senior Biology or Senior Geology (Senior Physics is required for entry into Health Sciences)
    • 1 elective from group 1 or 2

Group 1: Senior Secondary Additional or Advanced Math, Biology, Chemistry, Computer / Information Technology, French, Geography, History, Geology, Law, Political Science, Science, Physics, Sociology, Environmental Studies.

Group 2: Senior Secondary Accounting, Business Studies, Marketing.

 

China: 

Senior Middle Two and Three results, as well as a graduation certificate. 

Students may also be asked to report scores from the National College Entrance Examination grades of 70% or above.

India: 

Indian School Certificate Examination, Intermediate Certificate, Higher Secondary School Certificate or All India Senior School Certificate grades 60% or higher OR General Certificate of Education (GCE).

Iran: 

Official copies of High School and Pre-university transcripts. The minimum required grade for entrance is 14.
