Overview

Bachelor of Information Technology

This course covers fundamental programming and security skills of modern computing and computer networks, specialising in various aspects of distributed computing.

You will use Python as a tool for learning networks and other programming. 

Linux skills are taught throughout the course, starting with the basics and progressing to advanced topics.

You'll develop a sound knowledge of computer systems and software development and maintenance processes.

This degree is designed to prepare you for careers in high-demand areas of computing. 

Curtin works closely with industry partners to optimise course content and provides final-year placement opportunities to suitable students.

If you perform well in the first year of this course, you can apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Computing course

If you perform exceptionally well, you can apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Computing) course, although acceptance is not automatic. 

In both cases, full credits will be transferred to the new course.

Academic background and requirement

Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent)

Essential course prerequisites

Mathematics. Calculus is desirable.

India:

  • Indian School Certificate (ISC): 60% from the best four subjects and at least 60% in English or separate evidence of English competence
  • All India Senior School Certificate/ Delhi Senior School Certificate Examination: 60% in the best four subjects and at least 60% in English or separate evidence of English competence
  • Higher Secondary School Certificate: 65% in the best five subjects

China:

  • Gao Kao: 67% of the overall maximum score, or a grade of 322/480,402/600, 503/750, 543/810 or 603/900

OR 

  • successful completion of the first year of a four or five-year Bachelor's degree at a recognised University or authorised degree-granting institution, separate evidence of English competence is required.

Iran:

  • Successful completion of the first year of a four-year Bachelor's degree at a Section 1 Higher Education institution listed on AEI CEP, separate evidence of English competence is required.
