Overview

Bachelor of Aviation

Griffith University has one of Australia's largest and most highly recognised aviation teaching programs. 

Over the past 25 years of teaching in this field, It has built an international reputation for industry-ready graduates. The aviation staff have strong industry ties, and some are world leaders in aviation research.

The Bachelor of Aviation is a two-year, accelerated degree allowing students to progress more quickly into a flying career.

You will be introduced to the sciences underpinning the theory and practice of aviation. You will also study courses in navigation, safety management systems and the human factors in aviation. 

Through the Bachelor of Aviation, you will develop the skills needed for lifelong learning in the evolving aviation environment.

The Bachelor of Aviation and self-funded flight training will allow graduates to be ready to work in the aviation industry as commercial pilots.

Standard program

The program is available full-time or part-time. 

Courses are offered on-campus at the Nathan campus. However, some courses may be provided in external mode or via the internet (fully online) with no requirements for on-campus attendance. 

The program includes 3 trimesters and can be taken in an accelerated mode over two years. In addition, the program consists of some Trimester 3 core courses.

As a full-time student, you will generally attend 15-20 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. In addition, courses may be designed during the day and evening throughout the week.

Professional Entry pathway

The Professional Entry pathway is offered on-campus and online. 

The on-campus offering is available to International students studying in Australia on a student visa. 

Students will be able to attend lectures and tutorials, access course materials, participate in learning activities, lodge assessment items, and access support services.

Access to a reliable computer with internet connection is essential.

PATHWAYS TO FURTHER STUDY

The Bachelor of Aviation provides a pathway to the following programs:

  • Graduate Diploma of Flight Management (4188).
  • Master of Aviation Management (5647) and other relevant postgraduate programs.

Academic background and requirement

Completion of secondary school comparable to Australian Year 12 or equivalent academic achievement.

Prerequisites: -

China:

Qualification: GaoKao: Successful completion of the National College Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) with a minimum of 63% of the overall maximum score.

Qualification: Peoples Republic of China Senior Middle School Graduation Certificate

A grade average of 91 in the final year results OR successful completion of a recognised pre-tertiary or foundation program OR successful completion of one year of study at a recognised tertiary or higher education institution is required in addition to the completion of High School studies.

India:

All India Senior School Certificate or Comparable Qualification (awarded by CBSE or CISCE): An overall grade average of 65% in the best four academic subjects

Iran:

Qualification: Iranian High School Diploma (before 2019): Grade average of 17.7 in the final year results

Qualification: Iran Pre-University Certificate or Iranian High School Diploma from 2019: Grade average of 12.3 in the last year's results

Foundation Study: 

Suppose you do not meet the academic entry criteria for your degree. In that case, you may be able to study a foundation or diploma program to gain direct entry into the equivalent Griffith University bachelor's degree.

The Foundation Program has been designed to prepare you for a diploma or degree in Arts, Education, Business, Commerce, Design, Engineering, Health, Hotel Management, Information Technology and Science.

Professional Entry Requirement

The Professional Entry pathway has two entry points catering for basic and advanced levels of qualifications and experience.

To be eligible for admission with 80 credit points of advanced standing, a student must have the following:

  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
  • Instrument Rating Multi-engine (IRMEA)

Upon acceptance, students will be granted 80 credit points of advanced standing based on their qualifications and experience.

To be eligible for admission with 160 credit points of advanced standing, a student must have the following:

  • Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) [granted under current CASR Pt 61 provisions or equivalent provisions]

OR

  • Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theory examinations passed (ATPL frozen) AND be currently cleared to line with an airline operating CASR 25 / FAR 25 aircraft type(s)
