Overview

Master of Environment - Environmental Protection

This degree provides training for people who wish to help make society more sustainable.

It also provides opportunities for those who want to move into more senior management positions.

You will develop the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, contribute to policy-making processes and run environmental management systems.

In Environmental Protection, you will be equipped with the essential skills in environmental protection policy and practice needed to work in consulting firms and government agencies, such as:

The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.

Your work will be focused on improving environmental management, quarantine and biosecurity outcomes in careers such as environmental monitoring and compliance officer, environmental assessment officer or project officer.

PATHWAYS TO FURTHER STUDY

The Master of Environment qualification will provide a pathway to Doctoral studies.

Students wishing to pursue a Doctorate can choose an elective 40 credit point research dissertation component in addition to the core 10 credit point Research Design and Methods course.

Students wishing to pursue doctoral research will need to complete the 40 credit Dissertation, which will usually be taken in the final Trimester of Year 2 of the program.

Students will typically only be admitted to the Dissertation after completing special courses and after achieving a minimum GPA of 5.5 (using a 7.0 scale) in comprehensive courses in the program up to entry to the Dissertation.

Admission is also conditional upon the program director's approved research project proposal, including a supervisor's nomination and consent.
