The Master of Engineering Science (Civil) provides a broad range of skills to investigate, plan, design, and maintain complex civil engineering solutions.
There is a strong emphasis on practical skills and teamwork throughout the course.
Civil engineers develop and maintain various physical infrastructures such as bridges, buildings, airports, roads, railways, ports, mine sites, water and wastewater supply, treatment, and reuse systems.
They also help to maintain sustainable natural environments.
They are highly creative and innovative problem solvers who design, construct, manage, maintain, or rehabilitate all aspects of this infrastructure.
The technical solutions developed by civil engineers must consider social, environmental, and financial constraints.
Civil engineers work closely with architects, planners, and the community to ensure that what is constructed is needed. As a result, and unlike many disciplines, the fruits of civil engineering often last a very long time.
Flinders engineering staff's excellent links with industry partners on research and development projects mean that many work placement opportunities are available.
